The COVID-19 pandemic has made resources scarce, from ovens to computers to ketchup packets, as manufacturers struggle to meet demand with a dwindling workforce and stalling supply chains and shipping resources. Even the mining industry has felt the impacts of the pandemic, with many companies halting exploration and drilling projects.
In March 2020, Silver Viper Minerals Corp. (VIPR:TSX.V; VIPRF:OTCQB) underwent its own nine-week pause in operations at its La Virginia gold-silver project in Sonora, Mexico. Since the company reopened the exploration camp following the COVID-19 shutdown, it has been exploring and prospecting the El Rubi target and other potential surrounding targets there. Work has included drill testing and prospecting work, such as chip sampling and mapping, along the El Rubi and El Molino trends.
Now, preparations are being made for a deep-penetrating, TITAN-160 ground-based geophysical survey of El Rubi. Most recently, line cutting for the survey was done. The survey objective is to learn where the structural blocks of the mineralized system are to then design a drill program to test the deeper extensions of the mineralized shoots.
The TITAN-160 survey approach is ideal for this, as it collects DC resistivity and induced polarization data down to 750 meters (750m) from surface, and its magnetotelluric component does the same down to 1,500m.
The geophysical survey, to be carried out by Quantec Geoscience, is expected to start in a few weeks, according to a news release.
As for drilling at El Rubi, it has targeted progressively deeper intercepts. The deeper holes show continuations of mineralized structures that the rhyolitic tuff unit hosts. The unit is located below the main host rock.
Recent drilling primarily targeted the southern portion of the El Rubi trend where it projects toward the north to south-trending Macho Libre structure. Results from there showed silver and gold mineralization of high grade, silver up to 443 grams per tonne (443 g/t) and gold up to 10.5 g/t.
Silver Viper continues advancing other prospective areas of La Virginia, including the La Colmena zone, north of El Rubi, and a new prospect, Paredones, east of El Rubi. Currently, chip sampling and mapping are being done in those places.
The current La Virginia resource estimate, calculated earlier this year, consists of 154,000 ounces (154 Koz) of gold and 6,930,000 ounces (6.93 Moz) of silver in the Indicated category and 260 Koz of gold and 12.94 Moz of silver in the Inferred category.
