ProStar Holdings reported it has been granted a major Canadian pioneer patent for its ProStar® that allows mobile devices to capture critical utility asset data and quickly transmit the information to the cloud and back office.

Precision Mapping Solutions® company, ProStar Holdings Inc. (MAPS:TSX.V; (5D00:FSE), announced in a news release that "Canadian Patent No. 3,034,837, prepared and prosecuted by Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP (LRRC), one of the United States leading intellectual property law firms, has been granted to ProStar®."

ProStar Holdings advised that the newly issued pioneer patent is for its ProStar® that enables mobile devices to efficiently collect and record key data from critical utility assets and then transmit the captured information to the cloud. The firm stated that the patented device and method provide more timely data, which can be useful in preventing damages to utilities plant and equipment and the environment during new build construction, maintenance and repair projects.

LRRC Partner Raymond R. Tabandeh, who prosecuted the patent commented, "ProStar is a pioneer in precision utility locating, precision utility mapping, as well as digital management and distribution of utility information…This is ProStar's 20th issued patent and further buttresses ProStar's extensive U.S. and Canadian patent portfolio."

The company mentioned that the recently issued patent covers both the system and methods for determining the exact location of underground lines and equipment and the capability of displaying and sharing the information in real time. The firm noted that the patent encompasses all of the processes of factoring in the topography of a region and the utility companies located in the area. The information gathered is collected into a database and if desired can be displayed with reference to imagery of the area in real-time.

ProStar Holdings' CEO and a coinventor of the issued patent Page Tucker remarked, "It is a major milestone to have been issued our 20th patent. Not only does this issuance validate that we are the pioneer in utility mapping, but this issuance also puts us in a strong position supported by a very extensive IP portfolio to start prosecuting any patent infringements."

ProStar® listed that its native cloud and mobile flagship product called PointMan® is offered as a Software as a Service (SaaS). The firm added that its products and software solutions can capture, record and display pertinent information for managing critical infrastructure assets such as pipelines, railways, roads and utilities in real-time.

ProStar listed that it has formed strategic business partnerships with many leading global geospatial technology providers, data collection equipment manufacturers and dealer networks including Trimble®, Juniper® Systems, Bad Elf and others. The company indicated that its IP portfolio includes 20 issued patents in the U.S. and Canada. The firm listed that "its patents protect the methods and systems required to digitally capture, record, organize, manage, distribute and display the precise location of critical infrastructure including buried utilities and pipelines."
