In a news release, VSBLTY Groupe Technologies Corp. (VSBY:CSE; VSBGF:OTC; 5VS:FSE) announced that it and RadarApp, a Smart City Solutions provider, are now installing and testing a network of security kits in various regions in Colombia: Bogota, Medellin and Barranquilla.
The systems consist of exterior mounted high-definition cameras, high intensity lighting, motion sensors, audible alarms and VSBLTY artificial intelligence-inspired video analytics.
The system comprises noncontact, real-time camera technology that affords security and health providers continuous monitoring via a mobile app. It helps lower crime and provides crowd density information. The companies behind the product also aim to add a component that screens temperatures of people in busy public spaces, such as hospitals and schools.
"It is exciting to see this disruptive platform now being adopted in Colombia, and we believe that there is a significant opportunity to expand to several other Latin American communities," Jay Hutton, VSBLTY co-founder and CEO, said in the release.
The 3,000-plus of these security systems already deployed in Mexico City are helping reduce the incidence of crime, and that effect is spurring the interest of other Latin American countries. The entire program, which will comprise up to 40,000 security kits throughout 56 communities, has only been partially implemented so far in Mexico City.
However, for instance, Adrian Ruvalcaba, the mayor of Cuajimalpa, said that because of the security network, his municipality has gone to being the safest borough in Mexico City from being the 11th. Cuajimalpa's neighbor, Cuauhtemoc, reported a 40% reduction in crime in the first year the security network was installed there. As a result of the security systems, the Miguel Hidalgo borough is experiencing "fewer 911 calls, violence, fights, injuries and homicides," Mayor Victor Hugo Romo Guerra was quoted in the release as saying.
Other municipalities are having success in using the system to enforce COVID-19-related crowd gathering restrictions.
