In a news release, Bunker Hill Mining Corp. (BNKR:CSE; BHLL:OTCMKTS) reported that in support of its rapid restart program at its Bunker Hill Mine, it has installed and activated its water quality tracking platform that has been designed to automatically upload data to its website every five minutes.
The company stated that the launch of this system enables it to meet its pledge to all stakeholders that it is fully commitment to transparency. The system now offers public access to real-time data regarding mine discharge water quality from the Kellogg Tunnel as well as an interactive database containing detailed historical data.
Bunker Hill Mining's V.P. of Sustainability Bradley Barnett commented, "There can be no lasting trust without transparency. Giving our local community and key stakeholders, such as the U.S. EPA, unfiltered access to our water discharge and management data are key to building an effective partnership with those involved in ensuring the highest possible standards of environmental management."
The company explained that the Bunker Hill Mining and Metallurgical Complex Superfund site was set-up by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1983 to guarantee environmental cleanup and restoration work in areas previously contaminated by mining waste in the Coeur D'Alene River Watershed and Coeur D'Alene Lake regions including the upper reaches of the Spokane River.
The firm noted that "the new pre-discharge treatment system is already having a significant effect, with acidity and metal content reduced substantially."
Discharge water that flows from the Bunker Hill Mine is funneled to and treated by the EPA-managed Central Treatment Plant and then after contaminated metals have been filtered and acidity levels are reduced to at or below established discharge limits, it is safely pumped into the Coeur D'Alene River.
Bunker Hill advised the newly deployed water quality tracking platform is available on its company website within the ESG section. The information provided includes "a data logger that uploads and reports six water quality metrics in real-time from the Kellogg Tunnel." Specifically, the company listed that the data logger tracks and posts the water flow rate, pH value, conductivity, dissolved solids, turbidity and temperature of the mine's effluent.
The second key feature of the system is a readily available interactive database that users may query to view monthly water quality testing results from a wide range of locations in and around Bunker Hill Mine. Bunker Hill noted that it routinely collects water samples from 30+ locations on a monthly basis and that the interactive database allows users to extract data for customized analysis of even more detailed and extensive water quality testing results.
