Westhaven Gold Corp. (WHN:TSX.V) announced in a news release that grab samples, taken from the Franz vein zone it discovered last week at its Shovelnose project in British Columbia's Spences Bridge Gold Belt, returned significant gold and silver assays.
The highlights are from samples V074705 and V074706, which were extracted from a 5 meter (5m) span of east to west-oriented outcrop. Respectively, the returned assays were 51.1 grams per ton (51.1 g/t) gold and 165 g/t silver, and 4.19 g/t gold and 52.50 g/t silver. Float sample V074708 showed 34.9 g/t gold and 120 g/t silver.
"The newly discovered Franz vein zone is located approximately ~2.8 kilometres from the high-grade gold discovery at the South Zone. This demonstrates we are dealing with a large and robust mineralized system and it is not just limited to the South Zone," Gareth Thomas, president and CEO of Westhaven Gold stated. "The Franz Zone was discovered just over a week ago, so we don’t yet know the extent, but this is the most significant mineralized zone discovered on surface at Shovelnose."
The company noted that Franz "outcrops at an elevation of 1,285 meters and confirms the productive, dominantly rhyolite hosted gold-silver bearing horizon at South zone is also preserved here." As such, that Franz outcrop may be the northwest continuation of Vein zone 1. If it is, it extends the zone's strike length to 3.7 km.
To confirm continuity, Vancouver-headquartered Westhaven plans to soon conduct additional drilling at Franz.
