In a news release, Nexus Gold Corp. (NXS:TSX.V; NXXGF:OTCQB) announced results of the initial six holes drilled recently at its McKenzie project in Ontario's Red Lake District.
"This is a really positive start. Visible gold in core is always exciting," Vice President of Exploration Warren Robb said in the release.
Results are in for the six holes drilled over 784 meters (784m) in the St. Paul's Bay area but are pending for the remaining seven holes of phase 1.
Of the six, holes MK2020-001, -002 and -003 showed elevated gold assays. Core from MK2020-004, -005 and -006 contained visible gold, the company indicated.
Hole MK2020-006 intersected a zone containing a blue gray quartz vein at 69.5m downhole and returned values of 13.25 grams per ton gold (13.25 g/t Au) over 2.75m from 68.75–71.50m, including 1m of 36.2 g/t Au.
MK2020-005, drilled from the same location as -006, encountered the same vein at 44m downhole.
"We're pleased with the progression of the results received from the first few holes. These initial holes produced similar results to historical drilling in the same area, i.e., narrow intercepts of 1–7 g/t gold over various lengths between 1m and 4m," President and CEO Alex Klenman said in the release. "Results were getting more interesting the further we got into the drill program, so naturally we're eager to see what the next batch of assays reveal and to see if we can both extend intercept lengths, and continue to see additional significant mineralization."
Accordingly, Nexus Gold expanded its drill program to 2,000 meters from 1,000 meters.
