Defense Metals Corp. (DEFN:TSX.V; DFMTF:OTCQB; 35D:FSE) announced in a news release the remaining results of flotation pilot plant processing of the bulk sample from its Wicheeda rare earth elements (REEs) project near Prince George, British Columbia.
"We continue to be extremely pleased with the results, which we believe demonstrate the viability of large-scale bulk sample flotation processing of Wicheeda REEs deposit material," CEO Craig Taylor said in the release.
The entire Wicheeda bulk sample has now been processed through the pilot plant, in 20 runs. In the release, Defense Metals highlighted the results of the final five runs.
During those tests, 26 tons of bulk sample feed were processed over 178 hours; each run lasted for 12 continuous hours. About 1,200 kilograms of high-grade REEs flotation concentrate was produced. Grades were between 45.4% and 56.7% light rare earth oxide (LREO), and the average was 51.6% LREO. Recovery ranged from 53.8–81.5% LREO and averaged 72.4% LREO.
"Scaled-up flotation pilot plant results to date compare very favorably and, with respect to concentrated grade, exceed benchmark locked-cycle flotation tests that produced a high grade 48.7% LREO flotation concentrate at 85.7% LREO recovery," the release noted.
Next, Defense Metals noted it will analyze the data with an eye to further improving the Wicheeda metallurgical flowsheet.
