Seabridge Gold Inc. (SEA:TSX; SA:NYSE.MKT) announced in a news release it is shifting its exploration focus at KSM this year to blind targets beneath the Sulphurets fault system.
The company is sending crews to KSM for three purposes. One is to assess the possibility of additional gold-copper porphyry systems below the Sulphurets Thrust Fault (STF). "The key to this season's program is to use deep penetrating geophysical techniques west of the deposits and under the STF to refine potential drill targets," the release noted.
The second is to follow up on the previously identified, high-grade, epithermal gold intercepts on the margins of the Sulphurets deposit. These zones are not part of the existing deposit.
The third is to update the Sulphurets resource estimate to include recent drill results. The resource has not been updated since 2012, and since then, 10 holes for a total of 7,256 meters have been completed.
Seabridge's priority has been to ensure KSM is ready for final feasibility efforts, and indeed, four known porphyry gold-copper deposits now are at that stage. Having achieved that goal, the company is now "intent on improving our understanding of the entire project and its district-scale potential by addressing the many opportunities that remain, using the extraordinary bank of knowledge we have accumulated over the past decade," Chairman and CEO Rudi Fronk said in the release.
