Premier Health Group Inc. (PHGI:CSE; PHGRF:OTCQB; 6PH:FSE) announced in a news release it launched an app that assists physicians with virtually counseling patients located in urban areas as well as remote, underserved and underprivileged communities.
The goal is to reach and help more people, particularly those without easy access to mental health services, as well as those who would rather seek help from their home than in an office setting.
The two professionals championing Premier Health's mental health app initiative are Dr. Tahmeena Ali and Dr. Robert McKenzie, family practice physicians based in Vancouver, Canada.
Generally, the company's technology allows patients to schedule sessions and receive counseling through private, secure, online video, all through the app.
"It's disheartening to hear that 1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness, and due to the lack of accessibility to care providers, we are failing to meet the needs of mental health care provision," Premier Health CEO Dr. Essam Hamza said in the release.
"Having the ability to offer virtual mental health counselling services is pivotal to our patient-centric app," Dr. Hamza stated. "Through my own practice I have encountered a significant number of teens and young adults who would much rather use virtual services from the comfort of their home than come in person and wait in a busy waiting room to talk about their mental health. The need is there, and Premier Health, working alongside Dr. Ali and Dr. McKenzie, will develop the tools and framework to be able to overcome the barriers associated with mental health treatment."
