Great Bear Resources Ltd. (GBR:TSX.V; GTBDF:OTC) announced in a news release it "expanded its recent high-grade gold discoveries and identified a new ultramafic unit in the core of the Dixie gold system" based on results from 19 reconnaissance drill holes there.
The area it tested was a 220 meter (east-west) by 190 meter (vertical) swath encompassing the South Limb and Hinge zones. Result highlights include the discovery that both zones occur within the same extensive gold-mineralized quartz vein network. In fact, the company reported that gold was seen in all 19 holes. Gold with a grade higher than 15 grams per ton (15 g/t) was identified in seven holes.
Another highlight was the identification of mineralization extension below Hinge from surface down to 190 meters (190m), which remains open. The deepest hole, 114m down plunge of Hinge, returned 3.65m of 27.36 g/t gold. Other assays from Hinge drilling included 14.1m grading 4.45 g/t gold, including 0.5m grading 48.93 g/t gold and 0.5m grading 36.71 g/t gold.
As for drill holes in the South Limb zone area, they returned 5.95m of 4.21 g/t gold, including 1.25m of 15.16 g/t gold along with 3.6m of 5.57 g/t gold, including 1.1m of 14.01 g/t gold.
"We rank this new drilling success as our most significant gold discovery at the Dixie project to date, as it clearly exceeded our expectations," President and CEO Chris Taylor said in the release.
Another significant finding, revealed through seven drill holes across the South Limb, Hinge and Dixie Limb zones, is the existence of "a serpentine and talc-altered, veined ultramafic unit that is central to the major gold occurrences," noted the release. Taylor indicated that this information helps Great Bear better understand the gold system at Dixie and suggests additional gold zones exist elsewhere at the project.
The company intends to continue drilling on the property through 2019. Early next year it will engage a second rig to accelerate the efforts, which will include drilling the known mineralized zones and testing new targets. Great Bear will keep releasing results in clusters as they become available.
