Sparc AI Inc. (SPAI:CSE; SPAIF:OTCQB; 5OVO:Frankfurt) developer of the Overwatch GPS-denied navigation and targeting platform, announced the appointment of Matt McCrann as Chief Executive Officer of its U.S. subsidiary. According to the company, McCrann will lead SPARC AI's North American expansion efforts, including establishing the company's operational presence and expanding engagement with U.S. defense, federal, and allied government customers.
The company stated that the appointment supports its strategy to scale operations in the U.S. defense market as demand grows for resilient navigation and targeting capabilities in contested environments.
McCrann previously served as Chief Executive Officer of DroneShield's U.S. subsidiary, where he established and expanded U.S. operations during a period of revenue growth and scaling across federal customers.
According to SPARC AI, McCrann's responsibilities as U.S. CEO will include building the company's U.S. team and operating infrastructure, advancing field evaluations and pilot programs, aligning with procurement pathways, and establishing strategic partnerships with defense primes and system integrators. These efforts are intended to support deployment of the Overwatch platform across air, land, and maritime domains.

They added that "the limiting factor was not the number of aircraft but of the trained personnel and the organizational structure to enable them," highlighting operational challenges associated with scaling autonomous technologies.
According to a May 15 report from The Robot Report, the autonomous defense sector continued to focus on collaborative systems capable of functioning across land, air, and maritime environments. The report stated that autonomous systems increasingly emphasized real-time decision-making and coordinated operations in communications-degraded environments. It also noted that "autonomy at the edge fuses sensing, planning, and control, enabling heterogeneous assets to self-organize and execute complex missions with minimal supervision."

The report also noted that Overwatch operates through software without requiring additional hardware components such as sensors or radar systems. Thomson described the technology as a "true zero-signature solution," and further referred to the platform as "covert, resilient, and drone-agnostic," adding that it provides operators with real-time situational awareness capabilities.
At the time of Thomson's report, SPARC AI shares were trading at CA$1.18. The analysis assigned a CA$1.60 target price and a "Speculative Buy" rating, while also noting the possibility of shares reaching CA$2.00. The stock later traded at CA$5.75.
