Volt Lithium Corp. (VLT:TSV;VLTLF:US) announced in a press release on February 23, 2024, that it had reached another important step toward commercialization with regard to its direct lithium extraction (D.L.E.) technology. The technology, which is intended to extract lithium from oil field brines, has cut operating costs by 64% on the company's Rainbow Lake property.
The company has stated that this is only one step in its ongoing streamlining efforts and should support robust margins for Volt.
Alex Wylie, the President and CEO of Volt Lithium, commented, "Volt is well on our way to becoming the low-cost commercial producer of battery-grade lithium from oil field brines in North America. The Volt engineering and technical teams continue to improve operational processes for our proprietary D.L.E. technology that we believe will truly drive commercial success for the company."
He continued, "As demand for high-quality lithium continues to grow, Volt's latest achievement positions us to help meet the world's expanding need for this critical mineral and to do so in an environmentally sustainable and lower-impact manner."
Lithium a Focus of Chinese Critical Minerals Policy
On January 23, 2024, Katusa Research included lithium in a list of sectors that could see major breakouts in 2024. Due to a global push toward decarbonization and alternative energy sources, lithium has been a major focus for the electric vehicle industry, especially in Asia, as an essential component of batteries.
The report commented, "China has started the ‘Ore Wars' and will flex its muscle to secure its supply. It just announced a cut to critical raw materials tariffs, and you guessed it — lithium was [at the] top of the list."
Superb Management
Michael Ballinger with GGM Advisory Inc. reviewed Volt Lithium on January 23, 2024, and labeled it as a "Buy" through the end of January at CA$0.10.
On January 22, Ballinger commented, "Volt has a superb management team, so my heart lies in their ability to shrug off this (hopefully) temporary lag in lithium demand and strike a number of U.S. D.L.E. deals that can supersede the bearish narrative and vault them to the top of the pack."
